Cost Changes for 2026 Health Plans
Starting January 1, 2026, some changes may affect how much you pay for health insurance through Virginia’s Insurance Marketplace.
You can use the Cost Calculator to see what you might pay and to find out if you qualify for financial help. Even though some enrollees may see higher monthly premiums in 2026, all Marketplace plans will continue to offer high-quality, comprehensive coverage to keep you and your family protected.
*2025 plans and prices will not change. These updates apply to plans starting January 1, 2026.
Open Enrollment Is Happening Now Through January 30
Open enrollment for 2026 health plans is underway through January 30, 2026. This is your time to review your options, update your information, and choose the health insurance that fits your needs.
What You’ll Need to Enroll
Before signing up for a 2026 health plan, gather these documents for each adult you want to cover:
- Photo ID
- Social Security number
- Most recent tax return
- Pay stubs from the past four weeks
- Immigration documents (if applicable)
Why Costs May Go Up
Several changes could affect your premium:
Expiration of enhanced tax credits
Extra financial help that's been in place since 2021 is set to expire December 31, 2025.
Other factors that could affect costs
Even if tax credits continue, other things could change what you pay. Be aware of these potential developments that might affect you:
- A change in your income, family size, or tax filing status
- A new insurer entering your region
- Not filing and reconciling your federal taxes if you received tax credits for your health plan premiums
- Missing paperwork deadline
